Crimped filaments have a wave to them, called amplitude, and a wider brush flare. The crimp will close the gap around an object. When used in a coil brush design, the filaments will create a surface that appears to be smooth, or carpeted.
Straight, or level filaments are better for uses such as brush seals, pest control, light control, and temperature control. They align more tightly, creating a more compact surface. When used in a coil brush design, level filaments appear more like a spiral.
